Job Title: Elementary Principal

Supervisor: Superintendent

Requirements:

  1. Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree in Education and/or Special

Education, Master’s Degree preferred.

  1. Experience: Minimum of three (3) years in K-5 classroom teaching

Experience.

  1. Other Requirements: Shall have a valid North Dakota Teaching License

And a valid Elementary Principal’s Credential

Shall have knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act [IDEA]

Demonstrated experience and competency required in areas of personnel supervision and evaluation; educational assessment; educational planning; educational program resources; participative management; communication skills; effective teaching and learning styles; educational research; leadership development; culture-based curriculum; school climate development; educational transformation and restructuring; and other appropriate areas of competency.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Skills in human relations, leadership and conflict management.

Shall have a valid Driver’s License.

Shall pass a background check in accordance with the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, Public Law 101-630.

Shall submit to a pre-employment Drug Test.

Indian and Veteran’s Preference considered.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

This position is specifically responsible to oversee the Elementary (K-6) instructional/learning program of the Standing Rock Community School, including supplementary educational programs and services which are appropriate in meeting the academic, cultural, emotional, social, physical, creative and other holistic needs of K-6 students.

  1. Develop and monitor student progress utilizing performance-based, “authentic” and appropriate methods and processes to evaluate K-6 student learning and development.
  2. Conduct K-6 instructional and other staff meetings to ensure participatory planning, development, problem-solving, decision-making, and other school improvement activities that include curriculum, assessment, and student input into planning and decision-making, extra-curricular activity options and resources, educational trend and research discussions, effective practices reviews, staff performance expectations and needs, and other participative activities.
  3. Monitor the development of learning activities to ensure that these activities compliment established Student Outcomes for appropriate age, grade-level, and developmental abilities.
  4. Establish and implement an effective method and process for the conduct of frequent informal and formal classroom observations to assist teachers in continually developing their abilities to plan, implement, and facilitate learning activities for K-6 students.
  5. Monitor the development and maintenance of student records that include attendance, academic and other achievement, evaluation, enrollment, CDIB, and other appropriate and required student records.
  6. Ensure K-6 educational/learning program compliance with accrediting agency standards and requirements of the Standing Rock Community School.
  7. Ensure proper and equitable administration of and provide direct oversight and implementation of student rights and responsibilities, and expectations of students as incorporated into the student handbook.
  8. Establish and implement activities designed to ensure that parents of children enrolled in the school have the opportunity to become involved as true partners in the education of their children, and the design of programs, policies, procedures, and activities of the Standing Rock Community School K-6 program.
  9. Develop and monitor the implementation of processes designed to consistently provide students, programs, policies, procedures, activities, and other aspects of school operation, implementation, and evaluation.
  10. Function as a resource in the identification and acquisition of learning equipment, materials, supplies, programs, and other resources needed to continually improve the K-6 learning program of the Standing Rock Community School.

  1. Attend all professional development as outlined by Standing Rock Community School.
  2. Conducts duties and responsibilities in accordance with the SRCGS Policies and Procedures.
  3. Performs additional duties deemed necessary as assigned by the Supervisor.
