NDDOT Traffic Safety Engineer / Transportation Engineer III: $7,243 / month*

NDDOT Traffic Safety Engineer / Transportation Engineer II: $5,999 / month

NDDOT Traffic Safety Engineer / Transportation Engineer I: $5,403 / month

At the North Dakota Department of Transportation, we owe our success to our people and processes. The Traffic Safety Engineer is responsible for improving roadway safety and traffic operations through the analysis of crash data, speed zones, and engineering studies. Job duties Include:

Review, analyze, and recommend solutions based on crash data

Lead analysis on crash data. Analysis and summary of crash data on corridors and intersections using software.
Responsible for helping to manage and determine processes for the use of the safety analysis software.
Lead position for road safety reviews – analyze and prepare memos with recommendations.
Lead for gathering requested crash data and preparing crash data locations.
Keep up to date on new infrastructure safety solutions
Conduct Traffic Engineering and Operations Studies

Conduct traffic engineering and operations studies to improve overall intersection and corridor operations.
Review Complaints and Requests

Analyze and compile the pertinent information for evaluation using engineering analysis and NDDOT policies.
Prepare recommendations and formal response.
Preparation of speed limit orders on behalf of the NDDOT Director and the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) Colonel to establish and maintain speed limit zones on the entire state highway system in accordance with North Dakota state law.

Manage the Traffic Operations Section Database

Responsible for entering all requests, correspondence, recommendations, responses, and supporting documents into the database and FileNet using database sequencing numbers.
Independently prepare and distribute the monthly Reference File 95 summary of active requests to Traffic Operations section staff.
Minimum Qualifications
To be considered as a Transportation Engineer III, you must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering and four years of professional-level engineering work experience. You will need to have successfully completed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

To be considered as a Transportation Engineer II, you must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering and two years of professional-level engineering work experience. In addition, you must have passed or have the ability to pass the Fundamentals of Engineering exam as specified by the Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors within six months of employment.

To be considered as a Transportation Engineer I, you must have a bachelor’s degree in engineering

This position requires a class D driver’s license for travel.

Employment of the selected candidate will be contingent on satisfactorily completing the interview process and reference check.
